Many emerging ergonomic professionals are facing navigating their career path, making and establishing strong connections in the field, and earning the trust and respect of colleagues all while trying to exude confidence in themselves. Whether an emerging professional in ergonomics is recently graduating college or is making a career change into ergonomics, recognizing and addressing these common psychosocial challenges promotes personal and professional growth and increased sustainability in the young growing field of ergonomics.

There’s no place like home … or is there?: Common challenges adopting hybrid work

Description:  Gone are the days of working in an office from 9 to 5, five days a week, with a commute back home! There has been a massive boom in popularity and shift in the “new” way of working. Many employers have introduced some form of flexible working where team members have the ability to work a portion of their week from home. Although there are incredible benefits to hybrid work, there are some novel challenges that have emerged that can impact employee health, well-being, and productivity. Join us as we take a look at common challenges and how to navigate them!

 Force Atlas: A Closer Look

Description:  Force Atlas was developed in collaboration with vehicle, aviation and marine manufacturers in Germany to help determine force limits for assembly specific tasks. Considering Force Atlas usage is increasing in the North American ergonomics community, this presentation will provide an overview of the Force Atlas, the assumptions/limitations of the research behind this tool, compare outcomes of this tool to other commonly used assessment tools in North America/Europe, and discuss the pros and cons of the Force Atlas vs traditional North American assessment tools.

The Challenges of Job Rotation

Description:  Worker rotation is often cited as an easy and cost-effective ergonomics solution.  In fact, there are many challenges with adopting worker rotation as a solution. The most worrying is the effectiveness if not done well. It is complex to create a safe and effective rotation schedule. What assessment tools are being used ? This review will discuss the approaches and elements to consider when utilizing worker Rotation to mitigate injury risk.
